The Comcast.net portal site is one of the most heavily trafficked sites in the United States. Comcast high-speed broadband subscribers can login to check their email, configure their accounts and participate in the Comcast forums. Any internet user, however, can get the latest news, watch videos, look for jobs, shop, play games and more on this general-purpose portal site. Comcast.net visitors are generally older (35+) and more affluent.

Comcast had two primary goals for the first phase of their Nitro implementation - to increase page views and advertising impressions, and to increase the number of Comcast subscribers who were registering and logging in to Comcast.net, rather than surfing anonymously.

The Nitro program on Comcast.net has been successful and can be clearly tied to metrics-driven results, including high member conversion and an increase in page views per unique visitor.

Flash games and other content can easily be integrated with Nitro via our Flash Connector. Comcast has hundreds of trivia games running in six categories (Music, News, Sports, etc.) on Comcast.net, all of which have been instrumented with Nitro so that users can earn points by playing. A mini-profile box on the trivia page shows the user their current stats.

Every game has a Nitro-generated leaderboard, with the top scorers in the last 24 hours as well as the all-time leaders in each game. Nitro also generates a News Feed with all the latest site activity, a great way to surface and cross-promote both the content being consumed and the users who are actively participating in the site. The Nitro News Feed can be filtered by an individual user, a group of users, or the entire site.

Each user's profile page showcases their stats, including currently available points and lifetime points, last game played, and last trophy earned, and also enables them to spend the points they've earned to customize their avatar. The avatar is used as the user's representation on their profile page, in leaderboards, and in the News Feed. Comcast.net is using the default Nitro Avatar Widget, and they've added in their own custom assets.

There is an extensive set of Challenges and Trophies in Comcast.net's Nitro implementation. Comcast used Nitro's Trophy Case Widget, styled heavily with the run-time styling options. The site producers at Comcast can issue new challenges at any time, simply by using the Nitro Admin UI.
